I’ve been working with Open Doors Garden Furniture to create a video showing the range of products they produce and distribute.
It was snowing in Leeds when I left in the morning to drive to the Oldham location, and it was still snowing when I arrived. Luckily the weather broke and the rain held off until I wrapped after 7pm. It was blowing a gale most of the day though, the jib was getting slightly buffered during the shoot but not enough to affect the filming too badly.
I remade and animated the company logo in Apple Motion and edited in Final Cut Pro X with a master grade and vignette. The folks at Open Doors are really happy with the final film, and it’s been embedded into their website for the Easter holidays.
Our second job in Brussels saw us making a film for The University of Kent – Brussels School of International Studies.
The brief was to promote the school from the perspective of getting a job once a student has graduated.
This involved filming career tutors and many former students now working in Brussels.
This was the first time I used my GoPro in a paid job.
The Wi-Fi monitoring came in really useful as I was able to place the camera above the bar before the event and start recording remotely once the venue opened it’s doors.

After an overnight stay in the lovely Midland Hotel in central Manchester, we started out early Wednesday morning to the Trafford Centre. I was working with VisMedia to cover a local launch event for the Lynx Space Academy, where you can win the chance to travel into space. The event was being hosted by Kimberly Wyatt, former Pussycat Doll.
Kimberly was joined by four astronauts in brilliantly detail costumes, that were by all accounts incredibly hot inside. Even with the built in air conditioning the helmets were steaming up, and the guys had to take regular breaks.
We filmed footage alongside a photographer, stopping filming when the flashes were going off. I shot in standard and slow motion, to achieve an outer space look.
Yours truly, Kimberley and Lee from VisMedia. Aww.
Today was the second day of factory tours, specifically for a printing client.
I’ve been filming the specialist processes required to print on promotional gifts, which are made from a wide range of materials and present many challenges to the printers due to the wide variations of shape and size.
I’ve filmed Pantone Selection, Ink Mixing, Silkscreening, Pad Printing, Epoxy Bonding, Laser Engraving, Embroidery, Heat Transfers, Injection Moulding, Litho and Digital Printing, Mug Screenprinting, Kiln Drying… I’m sure I’ve missed some of the list… Not forgetting an industry secret, three colour process I’m not allowed to talk about. Shhh.

Today Northern Gas Networks launched their RIIO initiative to a management conference.
Myself and Howard from Red Lobster have spent a few days working with NGN to produce the internal launch film which is being shown today at the Leeds United FC conference centre.
We’ve filmed at locations all across Leeds and the wider area. Offices, Pipelines, and Roadworks, even a Hotel. Quite an unusual job. As well as shooting and editing, I’ve also made an animated 3D logo for the final film.
Following on from the Harrogate Apartments filming, I was asked to film the newly built Lawrance Apartments in York.
This was an opportunity to use my camera slider a lot more than in Harrogate, as well as hiding small battery powered LED lights around the locations.
The filming took a day and a half and the edit was another day.
This was the first job completed using Final Cut Pro X on my new Hackintosh computer. A hand built computer running a modified version of the Apple operating system.

While in Brussels on other business, myself, Howard Foster and Nik Wood went to the European Parliament buildings.
We were there using the EUParl studio facilities to make pilot shows for two new programme ideas Howard has been working on.
Nik is a broadcaster maybe best known for hosting the BBCs Working Lunch as well as local and national News TV.
I’d already made VT inserts for two programmes, covering important topics surround European Law and Business. The shows were recorded and brought home for finessing and additional work. I’ve made 3D graphics and name straps for the pilots, and while I’m not a graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination they will do for now.
We’re looking for businesses or organisations to sponsor the production for further programmes in the future.
As Malcolm Harbour MEP said during one of the shows, they are a great idea and much needed.
So please contact Howard at Red Lobster if you can offer any help.

The Golden Bridge Awards are given to businesses exporting to and from Belgium to the UK. The Chamber of Commerce asked us over to Brussels to film the business presentations at the British Embassy and we had a great day.
Once back in the UK we edited an energetic, fast paced and very loud show video which was played at the awards ceremony in central London on the 15th. The audience of business associates and dignitaries gave the video a huge round of applause, which was nice.

Leaving Leeds just after 4am and arriving by the Thames at Embankment at 9.02 for a 9.30am start at the headquarters of Care International. A hectic start to the day, but it turned out really well…
I was asked to shoot a series of greenscreen interviews for a TV commercial promoting lendwithcare.org.
It’s a really interesting charity website where you can often get your donation money back!
I won’t explain how it works, it’s best if you have a look for yourself. Here’s the advert:
