Martin House Covid19 Appeal

Martin House Hospice asked me to make a 2019 Christmas fundraising video. It was a good opportunity to capture a few extra interviews and cutaway footage for future videos too:

Early in 2020 I put this little video together:

Later, they needed a few urgent videos as the lockdown has seriously affected their fundraising work. Most of this years’ fundraising events are getting cancelled too. I made a few online appeal videos, and a TV commercial which I managed to get aired for free on Made in Leeds TV.

No Horses Spared

I was asked to film timelapse of the Nightingale Harrogate hospital being fitted out, an impressive build with a huge team of people working around the clock . I installed four cameras in the roof spaces, and also used a tripod based camera when I was on site myself.

The footage ended being used by dozens of websites as well as ITV and the BBC, both local and national:

Strictly in Leeds

For the third year, I’ve worked on the Martin House ‘Strictly get Dancing’ event, creating video assets to promote and launch the event. Filming the event on the night, as well as the videos that play on the big screens during the night. For the first time the event was held at a venue in Leeds, and so I also provided and operated the show lighting, which wasn’t easy as I was operating a camera at the same time! They had a little aftershow party so I left the lights up and kept the mood going.

This year Duncan Lomax from Ravage Productions looked after the event photography, so we took the opportunity to get a photo with Duncan Wood from ITV… The three Duncan’s together for the first time!

Deansgate Manchester

Deansgate Square in Manchester is a massive property development that includes a cluster of four skyscrapers, shopping and entertainment centres.

I’ve been editing monthly update videos for a few years using onsite timelapse. In early July I visited the site to film the showhomes and capture a day to night timelapse. I’ve used some of that footage in this launch video:

My new Rock’n’Roller cart has been a great help, letting me get all the gear onsite in one trip.

Summer at White Rose

It’s a busy Summer at the White Rose Shopping Centre.

Here be Dragons!

Here’s a recent promo I made for the Martin House Children’s Hospice 2019 charity boat race at Roundhay Park. The day started at 8am, capturing the Martin House and Events teams getting setup. Racing continued into the late afternoon and the winner we announced just before 6pm. I captured 596 shots on the day… no wonder the video ended up over 6 minutes!

It was an opportunity to take the trusty old Sony FS100 out onto the water and shoot at 720p50 for some slow-motion action. I wasn’t going to risk using a newer camera on an unpaid charity job because I knew I’d be jumping in and out of dingies, and hot-footing it around a park all day with my daughter in tow.

The video has had 1700 views on Facebook so far. And I’ve also made a high energy promo for next year’s event!

Xmas Xscape

Xscape Yorkshire asked us to produce their Christmas events videos this year, which included the Santa’s Parade walk and a visit to Santa’s Cabin. Tom filmed the parade using his Sony A7s which works brilliantly in very low light, and I filmed the Cabin using my Speedboosted super fast prime lenses at f1.2. I created the graphics in Motion and edited the videos in FCPX. Feeling festive yet?
