I’ve been investing in Live-Streaming equipment in the last year or so. That seems to have paid off as Covid19 has caused many business to cancel their in person presentations, conferences, and product launches. I now have two full sized cameras that can stream independently to the internet via Wifi or Ethernet, and I also have a multi camera streaming setup for up to 4 video sources.

For the third year, I’ve worked on the Martin House ‘Strictly get Dancing’ event, creating video assets to promote and launch the event. Filming the event on the night, as well as the videos that play on the big screens during the night. For the first time the event was held at a venue in Leeds, and so I also provided and operated the show lighting, which wasn’t easy as I was operating a camera at the same time! They had a little aftershow party so I left the lights up and kept the mood going.
This year Duncan Lomax from Ravage Productions looked after the event photography, so we took the opportunity to get a photo with Duncan Wood from ITV… The three Duncan’s together for the first time!

Yorkshire Water are raising awareness of the problems caused by throwing unsuitable things down the toilet. They created a roadshow event similar to an escape room, where teams have to find clues in the fastest time possible in order to escape out the drain at the bottom of the house. It’s hard to explain. Ha. You’d better watch the video:
Although I mostly filmed handheld due to the tight spaces and hazards on the floor, I persuaded a few members of the public to wear a body or head mounted GoPro. These shots helped provide a bit of variety to the final video.

For the second year, we were proud to film the Strictly Get Dancing event for the Martin House Hospice. We also created social media videos for the contestants to use on their fundraising pages, as well as many of the video and logo assets played back during the live show. As usual Duncan Wood from ITV Calendar compered the evening and a panel of judges chose the winners. I sent Duncan a stringout of suitable footage that was aired on ITV the following Monday.
Here’s the highlights, full event videos and the ITV news item… Enjoy!

Trinity Leeds launched into Christmas this year with their Kissmas 2018 event. We covered the whole day with three cameras, and created several videos for social media and internal use. The following evening I revisited Trinity after hours to film the tree illuminations using my drone.
Here’s a short edit of the evening show shared by Trinity on Facebook:

I’ve just completed the editing for this year’s Faith Through a Lens Award. As usual I filmed and edited two VTs which are shown to the audience at the live event which I filmed with Tom. This is likely to be the last year that the awards are hosted by the BBC as the Religion Dept. is moving to Scotland.

Ace Dance and Music from Birmingham asked me to film a promo for their current touring show – Mana. A word used in 24 languages. The show was being performed in the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds which is an amazing venue with a great lighting rig.
I directed and shot the promo in the morning with assistance of Tom, and we stayed through to the evening performance to capture the 2 x 30 minute performances as well. During the morning I used the FS100 with my 11-16mm and 35mm lenses, which worked well in the sometimes very low light, used for this style of performance.
I shot several sequences in overcrank on the FS100 for a slow-motion effect which the dancers then watched on playback between takes.
I’ve edited another version of the Promo with plenty of added VFX as a bit of fun:
