Social Workers

I filmed a series of interviews for the Children’s Social Work Matters website back in May 2015. While doing some work for them recently I spotted that the videos have been made public.

This was one of the first times I filmed in Log using the JVC LS300 which gives the HDR (high dynamic range) low contrast look that these videos have.

Oh the Humanity!

Another trip to Brussels! ~ Crikey ~

This time we’ve combined shooting two films into one trip.
This meant filming 24 interviews in one day, as well as filming around the city and an awards ceremony. A crazy day.

– Humanity in Action commissioned Howard Foster and myself to produce a promotion film for their Pat Cox Fellowship. An internship programme which culminates in a cosy award ceremony at the top of the European Parliament Building.

– Next up, our old friend Mona from Kent Uni asked us to make a promo film for her key2advance business.
This combined interviews and setups around the city with archive footage shot by Mona across Europe.

VisMedia, London asked me to shoot this fascinating corporate for them.

We filmed in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds shooting interviews and GVs on my FS100 mostly using my new 28-70 f2.8 fast zoom. As we were very tight for time I lit the job using two of my 512 LED battery powered heads on small portable Dedo stands.

Most of the locations were medical so we needed to cause the least disturbance possible. My flyaway kit is small enough to take on a train and be carried by one person.

I’m a Wanderer

A new client – TheBusinessDesk.com asked me along to their ‘Go For It – Exporting for Beginners’ seminar in the amazing Lion of Vienna suite at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton. Leaving Leeds at 4.30am for a 6am get-in seemed like a distant memory by the time the bacon butties and milk came round at 7.30am.

After shooting some timelapse of the sun rising into the stadium, which worked out OK-ish, I filmed the event from every angle and then shot three interviews against a bright window. As this was the only location available to us, I shot the footage with the maximum latitude to enable selective colour correction in Final Cut Pro to bring the foreground out from the shadows.

Harrowing Harrogate

coppice_dental1Another Yell job today…
Coppice View Dental Practice in Harrogate was the scene, where I faced my fear of dentists and got down to business.

I helped the interviewees with their words, trying to keep things natural sounding and without them worrying about keeping to the script. Here’s the link if you dare…

Black Gold!!

essar2Today Essar Energy official took over running of the Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port near Liverpool. The £213million pound deal saw the Indian energy giant buy the facility from Shell. My client VisMedia sent me there over three days to document the changeover, as well as the official reopening and press launch. The massive site is the size of three hundred football pitches, and even though it has it’s own road and rail infrastructure it still took some time to get around.

The luck of the Irish

Irish1Just completed the online edit, then made DVD masters and internet versions of a series of short films charting the history of Irish immigration to Leeds. Earlier in the year I’d shot three days of chroma key interviews. The films were directed and edited by the multi-talented Patricia Doherty. Visit Untold Stories to find out more.
