It’s a Student’s Life

,

The Italian Job

We were commissioned by Kent University in Brussels to make another film – this time promoting student life. Life at BSIS is clearly very different from typical uni life as the students are generally older and more experienced and hail from all corners of the world. That made the production more challenging in terms of creating the concept yet more rewarding working with the guys from the university. Howard and I drove to Brussels as we often do and shot the film over two days. I created a few Final Cut Pro templates for the opening sequences and used some built in effects too.

Another trip to Brussels! ~ Crikey ~

This time we’ve combined shooting two films into one trip.
This meant filming 24 interviews in one day, as well as filming around the city and an awards ceremony. A crazy day.

– Humanity in Action commissioned Howard Foster and myself to produce a promotion film for their Pat Cox Fellowship. An internship programme which culminates in a cosy award ceremony at the top of the European Parliament Building.

– Next up, our old friend Mona from Kent Uni asked us to make a promo film for her key2advance business.
This combined interviews and setups around the city with archive footage shot by Mona across Europe.

Open Doors

opendoors

I’ve been working with Open Doors Garden Furniture to create a video showing the range of products they produce and distribute.

It was snowing in Leeds when I left in the morning to drive to the Oldham location, and it was still snowing when I arrived. Luckily the weather broke and the rain held off until I wrapped after 7pm. It was blowing a gale most of the day though, the jib was getting slightly buffered during the shoot but not enough to affect the filming too badly.

I remade and animated the company logo in Apple Motion and edited in Final Cut Pro X with a master grade and vignette. The folks at Open Doors are really happy with the final film, and it’s been embedded into their website for the Easter holidays.

Our second job in Brussels saw us making a film for The University of Kent – Brussels School of International Studies.

The brief was to promote the school from the perspective of getting a job once a student has graduated.
This involved filming career tutors and many former students now working in Brussels.

The film is now live on the client’s website.

This was the first time I used my GoPro in a paid job.
The Wi-Fi monitoring came in really useful as I was able to place the camera above the bar before the event and start recording remotely once the venue opened it’s doors.

Today I started two days of filming with Mark at The New Media Company.

Titan Furniture are an innovative manufacturer specialising in advanced school furniture. And I was asked to film around their facilities – production in Cambridgeshire, distribution in the Midlands and administration in Devon.

Mark made great use of his GoPros, and managed to get the best out of my footage in the edit. I used the jib in the production and distribution sections, where the my camera had to get into high and difficult locations. Overall the video gives a great indication of the size of the business.

Space Cadets

After an overnight stay in the lovely Midland Hotel in central Manchester, we started out early Wednesday morning to the Trafford Centre. I was working with VisMedia to cover a local launch event for the Lynx Space Academy, where you can win the chance to travel into space. The event was being hosted by Kimberly Wyatt, former Pussycat Doll.

Kimberly was joined by four astronauts in brilliantly detail costumes, that were by all accounts incredibly hot inside. Even with the built in air conditioning the helmets were steaming up, and the guys had to take regular breaks.

We filmed footage alongside a photographer, stopping filming when the flashes were going off. I shot in standard and slow motion, to achieve an outer space look.

Yours truly, Kimberley and Lee from VisMedia. Aww.

Toolbank on TV

, , ,

Toolbank are now running their TV adverts in the UK promoting their yearly Christmas campaign.

In the summer, as usual, I produced the sales video with Andy from Toolbank and also shot the studio segments in Leeds with Dark Horse.

Now the 16 finished adverts are made and on air. Here’s a couple of examples:

I shot the workshop footage as well as the white studio shoot.

Dark Horse looked after the post production (with technical input from yours truly) and airtime was managed by John at Dark Horse.

Sharing is Caring

Leaving Leeds just after 4am and arriving by the Thames at Embankment at 9.02 for a 9.30am start at the headquarters of Care International. A hectic start to the day, but it turned out really well…

I was asked to shoot a series of greenscreen interviews for a TV commercial promoting lendwithcare.org.
It’s a really interesting charity website where you can often get your donation money back!

I won’t explain how it works, it’s best if you have a look for yourself. Here’s the advert:

UPDATE – 20,000 views on YouTube so far!

Toolbank in the Studio

This year as well as making my usual Toolbank instore video loops in Sterling and Euros, I was asked to get involved in the TV commercials too.

I got the team at Dark Horse involved as together we have years of experience in producing commercials, and they now have an airtime sales expert onboard too.
A perfect match for Toolbank’s needs.

We shot the commercials in the white cyc studio at Prime Studios, Leeds. Vic M. lit it with a bit of help from yours truly.

I’ll post some videos when they’re on air.

Blue Blooded Belling

Today I filmed and edited a Royal visit by HRH the Duke of Kent to the Glenn Dimplex factory in Merseyside.

HRH was presenting Glenn Dimplex with the Queens Award for Export. And it was a double celebration as Belling, who are part of the Glenn Dimplex group, are one hundred years old this year!

I needed a second cameraman to cover the event and called on local talent, James Goodchild from Zippy Angels to help. We quckly formulated a plan on the day to cover the event and it all went very smoothly.
