A Yorkshire Rose

, , , , , ,

Last night I filmed a timelapse at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.

After getting home in the wee small hours, I started editing this morning and the finished video was uploaded to Facebook this afternoon. Originally it was a 60 second edit, but the client decided they didn’t want to see certain background elements, so I had to chop 15 seconds out. (Sadly it was the best shot of the video, which took over two hours to film).

The moving timelapse was filmed using my Sony a6000 with a slow shutter speed and a variable ND filter. The camera was rigged on my new Digislider, which moves and pans the camera using a precision timelapse motor and shutter intervalometer.

Today I started two days of filming with Mark at The New Media Company.

Titan Furniture are an innovative manufacturer specialising in advanced school furniture. And I was asked to film around their facilities – production in Cambridgeshire, distribution in the Midlands and administration in Devon.

Mark made great use of his GoPros, and managed to get the best out of my footage in the edit. I used the jib in the production and distribution sections, where the my camera had to get into high and difficult locations. Overall the video gives a great indication of the size of the business.

The phone rings:
“Come to Sheffield. We’ll brief you when you arrive”
– Sounds like a secret mission.

The Inn Crowd

In the far northern reaches of the Yorkshire Dales you’ll find Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. These were to be my filming locations for the next few days, and with beautiful sunshine every day it was a fantastic place to be.

I was making promotional videos for two local Inns, the Charles Bathurst Inn and the Punchbowl Inn.

This was another great opportunity to use my new camera the Sony FS100. I used the kit lens for general shooting, a fast 35mm for interviews, an ultra wide 11mm for the interiors and a 55mm macro for closeups. I also shot some slow-motion and time-lapse in the countryside.

Both venues have have a different story to tell, through their location, history and decor. So I tried to portray that in the videos. As a business they make great use of social media, the views on YouTube have been fantastic so far.

Flagging already?

flying_colours1Yet another quirky shoot for Yell today. This time for Flying Colours Flag Makers in Knaresborough.

I directed this on the hoof, deciding to get the staff outside holding a Union Flag. The time-lapse of the flag being made had to be orchestrated to happen in less than 5 minutes, when in reality it takes many hours to make.

It seemed a nice idea to get the staff involved again, by having them holding various flags up to camera. They all obliged, as I encouraged them to dance around draped in their days work.

Here’s a link to the final video.
